Chapter 9
“Edward, are you okay? How’s May?” Sharon asked worriedly, standing outside the bathroom as she watched Edward slam the
door, soaking wet.
“I’m fine. I’m going to change,” Edward said angrily.

Sharon pretended to reach for the bathroom door. Edward grabbed her hand, glaring at the glass door furiously, and said, go in. That crazy woman will spray water at you. I swear that she belongs in a mental hospital.

“I’m sure May didn’t mean to do it. Don’t be angry with her…” Sharon played the role of the mediator. But all her words did was fuel Edward’s anger.
On the other side of the bathroom door, Macie could hear their conversation. She sat on the floor, hugging her knees and clenching her fists. She bit her lip as hatred simmered on the inside.
She thought that Edward was detestable and Sharon was equally disgusting. They were the perfect match, made for each other. Both were scumbags who deserved each other through and through!
Macie regretted interfering two years ago. She shouldn’t have gone through with her youthful infatuation. Now, she was reaping
the bitter consequences.
The
cold water p
poured over her wounds, bringing down the temperature. Eyes unfocused, Macie couldn’t stop sobbing, yet all her
tears were dried up. Her heart felt numb.
While Edward was changing his clothes, the door to his bedroom was pushed open. Sharon entered the room
He turned and quickly finished buttoning up his shirt.
Sharon walked toward him gracefully, her gaze warm yet suggestive. There was a wry smile on her face. “Why are you being so shy?” she softly asked. “I’ve seen it all before.”
It was true, but Edward still felt slightly embarrassed. He turned away, saying, “Just wait for me outside.”
Sharon did not answer him. She was already in front of him, reaching out to tie his tie. “I learned how to tie a tie just for you, hoping that I’ll be the one doing it for you every day,” she said softly, her voice laced with sadness.
Edward looked down at her. Their eyes met.
Sharon’s watery gaze was filled with grievance and jealousy. “Has May been doing this for you these past two years?”
“No. I never let her touch me,” Edward blurted out. Then, he added, “I live in this room alone. I don’t even share a bed with her.”
Sharon smiled and leaned in.
She had been observing the bedroom since she stepped in. There were no traces of a woman’s presence, which immensely pleased

When their lips met, Sharon closed her eyes, her fingers brushing against Edward’s Adam’s apple. Her smile deepened when she
felt him swallow.
Edward simply stood still. He didn’t respond to her kiss but didn’t push her away either. At that moment, he should be thinking
only of the woman he loved, yet….
Sharon’s perfume filled his senses, but strangely, all he could think of was how Macie never wore any perfume. He recalled the faint, natural fragrance he had smelled in her room the night before.
His mind snapped back to reality instantly. He clenched his jaw and cursed himself for going insane. Why was he thinking about that crazy woman right now?
Annoyed, he grabbed the back of Sharon’s neck and kissed her back roughly.
The kiss was fierce. For Sharon, it was filled with joy and excitement, but for Edward, it was more about venting an anger that he
couldn’t explain.
When it finally ended, Sharon pulled away, panting slightly. Edward’s breathing was also uneven.
Sharon wrapped her arms around his neck. Her other hand slipped under his shirt as she looked at him with unspoken desire.
But just as she was about to kiss him again, Edward turned and pushed her away. “You must be hungry. I’ll take you out to eat. I don’t want to stay in the same house as that lunatic.”
Although she was displeased by the rejection, Sharon did not show it. Instead, she helped him put on his coat.
They went out. In the corridor, Edward glanced at the bathroom door. It was still closed.

“Ed, I want to eat burgers. Can you take me to a place that serves them?” Sharon said at that moment.
“Sure. There’s a new burger joint nearby. Let’s try it,” Edward said, looking back at her. Then, they left.
The front door closed with a soft thud. And then, silence.
Not long after, the bathroom door opened. Macie, thoroughly soaked, emerged, her eyes icy as she headed to her room.
She dried herself briefly with a towel, changed her clothes, and then limped out of the door toward the hospital.
The kitchen door was open when she passed by. All five plates of food had already gone cold, sitting untouched on the counter.
Macie scoffed in mockery as she left.
Those two scumbags had made her cook, but they never took a single bite. They had only wanted to torment her from the start.
Taking out her cracked phone, she called for a cleaning service to have someone clean up the kitchen. Then, she hailed a cab and
headed to the nearest hospital.
When the cleaning lady came and saw the untouched food, she called back and asked, “Ma’am, should we dispose of the cooked

food as well?”
“Yes. If you think it’s a waste, use them to feed the strays,” Macie said indifferently before hanging up.
“Ma
She’d rather feed her food to strays than let Edward eat it.
