The crowd around us was growing, and I didn’t want to become the talk of the neighborhood. I tried to walk past Jason and head
upstairs, but he grabbed my wrist.
“Honey, I truly realize my mistakes. If you’ll just forgive me, I’ll do anything you ask,” he begged.
I paused, then turned to give him a smile, one that didn’t quite reach my eyes.
“As long as you disappear from my life forever, I’ll forgive you,” I said.
Ignoring the look of despair on his face, I linked my arm with Lucian’s and continued upstairs.
Once we were out of his sight, I pulled away from Lucian.
“Thanks for helping me with that little act,” I said, grateful for his support.
He smiled warmly, his tone light. “It was nothing. Remember how we used to play prince and princess when we were kids?”
Jason refused to sign the divorce papers. So, I handed over the evidence of his infidelity to my lawyer and filed for divorce.
During this time, Caroline came to see me.
The elderly woman, now with gray hair, was crying as she begged me not to go through with it.
“Wynter, I’ve always treated you like my own daughter. For my sake, please, give Jason another chance,” she pleaded.
