Still in disbelief, Leo’s fury overwhelmed him as he shouted, “You’re fired!”

Sarah was shocked. “But, sir! I haven’t done anything wrong!”
Cheryl snickered. “You haven’t done anything wrong? This is Leo’s house, not Lyra’s. Can you honestly say you haven’t done anything wrong by taking Lyra’s side, especially after she was just heard cursing Leo’s parents?”
Sarah was about to beg Leo to keep her job, but I pulled her arm and said, “There’s no need to beg him, Sarah. I want you to follow
me after I move out of here.”
Sarah looked at me with deep gratitude, while Leo vehemently called his lawyer.

However, no one answered.
Leo assumed it was because they were busy.
He then tried calling Kael.
As soon as the call connected, Kael cried out, “Where are you? Hurry up and get over here!”
Leo frowned. “I’m at home, Uncle Kael.”
“Have you seen your parents? Their hearts were gouged out! Which bastard could hate them so much to do something like this?!”
“I can’t believe this is happening… I wish I could apologize to them…” Kael’s voice cracked with emotion, and Leo’s expression
grew increasingly serious.
Gritting his teeth, Leo asked, “Have you been drinking again?”
“I wish I were drunk! I wish this was all just a bad nightmare! My brother and his wife are dead… And it’s all because I didn’t
believe Lyra!” Kael broke down again, his sobs audible through the phone.
Leo ended the call without a word.
Cheryl, who had been standing nearby, wrapped her arm around his and said, “Lyra must have convinced him to lie to you too. Why don’t you call David instead?”
Leo grew more uneasy as memories of David’s call the previous night came rushing back.
He pulled out his phone and scrolled through the missed calls and voice messages, all from me.
“Leo, Mom and Dad are in critical condition! You need to get back here!”
“I don’t care if you don’t reply to my messages, Leo! Just get back here! Hurry!”
“Are you on your way, Leo?”
“They’re gone, Leo…”
Leo’s eyes reddened as he listened to the messages, and he quickly dialed David’s number.
Before he could speak, David’s voice cut through. “Finally, Leo! Are you back? Lyra’s already collected your parents‘ bodies. I’m really sorry for your loss.”
Leo’s emotions boiled over as he demanded, “When did this happen? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?!”
David sighed. “It happened at midnight. Lyra had already brought the ransom money and was going to pay them, but they were
murdered. We’ve arrested one of the suspects, but he’s still unconscious.”

Leo angrily pushed Cheryl’s arm away and stormed off, with Cheryl calling after him, “Where are you going, Leo? Wait for me, my leg hurts.”
Leo stopped abruptly and turned toward her. “Stay home and rest. Don’t go anywhere.”
Cheryl’s displeasure was clear, but Leo chose not to take her with him.
As he left, Cheryl attempted to call someone for a ride, but I grabbed her phone before she could dial. “Sorry, but you can’t leave.”
Cheryl’s face twisted in anger as she leered at me. “What are you doing, Lyra?”
I met her gaze steadily and replied, “You can’t leave until Leo gets back.”
Before Leo returned, sheriffs from the bureau arrived, wanting to question Cheryl as part of their investigation.
At that moment, I looked at Cheryl in disbelief.
“Ma’am, the perp who was shot has regained consciousness, and he’s told us that they abducted Mr. and Mrs. Ulric on your
orders.”
Cheryl’s face drained of color as she shook her head frantically. “No… I–I didn’t ask them to abduct anyone.”
The lead sheriff’s expression hardened. “Cheryl Faolan, you’re coming with us on suspicion of aiding in the abduction and
murders of Victor Ulric and Vera Wolfram.”
