Tyler immediately yelled at Bryan, “Hey, Earnshaw! Are you saying that I can’t have babies? Have you been fooling around
outside while I was gone?”
I laughed and cut off their squabble. “Didn’t you say that you were coming to take me away? Why are you arguing here?”
Tyler finally remembered what he was here to do. He and Bryan packed up quickly and followed me out, laden down with bags.
The bodyguards that Jasper had stationed outside blocked the doorway. “Mrs. Smith, Mr. Smith has given instructions not to let
you go out with the baby alone while he’s not around. This is out of consideration for your safety.”
I looked impassively at the two bodyguards. “Remember this. Your security company is controlled directly by Carlton
Corporation. We’re the ones who pay your salaries. It’s a good thing for you to take your job seriously and to be responsible, but
you should be clear about who you’re working for.”
The bodyguards hesitated for a moment, then bowed and let us go.
Tyler crowed with amazement behind me. He said teasingly, “Is this still the Aria I know? When you’re not being blinded by love,
you’re pretty good at being high and mighty!”
I laughed wryly. Tyler was really doing everything he could to desensitize me.
However, Tyler was worrying needlessly. When I was in love with Jasper, I had put him on a pedestal. Now that I no longer loved
him, he was nothing in my eyes.
When I next saw Jasper, it was five days later. He smiled bitterly. “I’m sorry, Ari. I know that you’re angry because I didn’t keep
my promise again. That’s why you got mad and moved out of the sanatorium.
“Nicole couldn’t stand it and committed suicide. She needed someone beside her at all times, so I had to stay with her.
“I was just taking care of her. Nothing is going on between us at all. You mustn’t misunderstand.”
I had no patience to listen to him talk about these things. I handed him the drafted divorce agreement again.
“Sign this. I’ll give you and Nicole my blessings. Sign this and divorce me. Then at least you can go and take care of Nicole
properly.”
Jasper’s eyes darkened. He did not take the divorce agreement, nor did he say anything. However, I continued.
“I didn’t take more than my share. Everything is written clearly in the divorce agreement. All I want is the company that my father left behind. The affiliated companies that you established will all be yours. I won’t take them from you. You don’t have to
worry, so just sign it.”
“Ari, I’ve told you many times that I won’t agree to a divorce. You’re the only wife I’ll ever have. There really isn’t anything going
on between Nicole and I.
“If you still don’t like her being around, I can send her abroad. She’ll never affect our lives again. Besides, if we get divorced, can

I laughed out of sheer anger. “Jasper, you should know very well who is to blame for our current situation. I can say with certainty that neither I nor my family have done anything wrong!
“Sign the agreement if you want to. If you don’t, I can file for divorce right now!”
I then turned to Wendy. “Wendy, see our guest out!”
Wendy Tate already felt sorry for all the suffering I’d gone through. So, she did not show Jasper any courtesy at all and chased him out with a broom.
