Jasper got down on one knee, just as he had done in the past. He held up the ring. “Ari, I want to propose to you again. I want to marry you again, and I’ve already planned the entire wedding. This time, I’m going to give you a grand wedding. Will you marry me?”
I was wearing ordinary stay–at–home clothes, and I was carrying a bag of trash.
Jasper wasn’t allowed to enter my home, so he had had no choice but to pounce on me at this time to carry out his plan.
The camera beside us kept clicking as it took countless photos of us. More and more people were gathering to watch.
The team of wedding planners that he’d mentioned came up with a wedding veil to put on me.
The song “Love You” was playing at an ear–splitting volume, and a group of dancers was dancing in front of us.
Fireworks lit up the sky. Everything was perfect, and all that was left was for me to say, “I do.”
Jasper had always known what I liked. If he had done something like this in the past, I would have been giddy with delight. It was
a pity that I no longer liked him. Doing this now only bothered me.
I turned my head aside and dodged the wedding veil that was about to be placed on my head. I asked Jasper sarcastically, “Are you crazy? Didn’t you receive the subpoena for divorce proceedings? Stop disrupting the neighborhood. I’ll see you in court.”
I tossed the trash into the trash can and walked off without looking back.
The incident made headlines for the community news that day. The fact that Jasper had failed in proposing a second time made
him a laughing stock for the entire day.
Tyler had hordes of fans on the Internet, and they posted over a dozen sharp–tongued posts that hinted sarcastically at Jasper’s affair and how he had almost killed me. They also mentioned the fact that he’d given my child to his mistress to raise.
Since Jasper had carried Nicole to the auction publicly, the news of how lovey–dovey they had been at the auction was brought up
once more.
Jasper became the object of mass criticism as the speculation grew more intense, and it affected Smith Corporation’s stock.
Jasper did not appear in my sight before the hearing took place.
When we got to court, I was thoroughly prepared and had ample proof of how our marriage had fallen apart.
I’d hired the divorce attorney with the greatest authority in the industry, and the judge decided that the divorce would go through and that I would have custody of the child.
Jasper looked terribly disheveled. He was unshaven, and he walked up to me. “Ari, is it really impossible for us to go back to how things were?”
Tyler pulled me aside and rolled his eyes. “As if!”
