He was covered in blood and looked like a demon.
I had no idea how long he kept this up.
The pain made his survival instincts stop him, but he always continued very soon.
He just kept going.
My eyes were wide open. At some point in time, I could no longer hold my tears back and started crying.
“Zach, stop, please. I’m begging you. I know all about your feelings now. I don’t blame you. I really don’t. Please, stop!”
My tears fell and landed on Zach’s face.
Delight showed up on his face.
“Starling, am I seeing things? I think I see you.
“I must look really ugly now.
“Starling, I’m not handsome like this. Do you dislike me now?”
1 shook my head and signed. [No. You’re the only one I care about and the only one I love. I’ll always only love you.]
“I love you the most too.”

Chapter 23
With great difficulty, Zach reached out and wanted to touch my head, but he only touched air.
Feeling dejected, he lowered his arm and looked at my rotten head.
“I’m sorry, Starling.”
[Please live. You can still turn back.]
“It’s too late, silly.” Zach hugged my head and sat beside the pool of sulphuric acid.
He threw the kidney he removed from Catherine into the sulphuric acid.
Then, he turned and gave my head a gentle kiss.
“I can’t turn back anymore. I only have one star in my life, but I lost her.
“But that’s fine. I’ll find her.”
With that said, he held my head and jumped into the sulphuric acid without hesitation.
As he did, the pain I lost returned.
My heart hurt, as if someone was stabbing me.
But gradually, the pain turned numb.
All I heard was Zach’s gentle but firm voice.
“Does it hurt, Starling?
“It’s okay. It won’t hurt anymore if I blow on it.”
