Christian’s expression darkened. “That b*tch Rachel took Minnie away in secret. She won’t answer my calls or reply to my messages! She thinks I can’t control her now that we’re divorced? Unbelievable!”
Mina’s face filled with false worry. “I wonder where Minnie is. What should we do? Rachel is being so reckless. Minnie’s heart condition had just improved a little, and now she’s dragging her around. What if something happens to her?”
She even faked a few tears. “This is all my fault. If I weren’t so incompetent, Clara wouldn’t have been born with heart disease. If we hadn’t taken Minnie’s heart, Rachel wouldn’t be this furious. But even if she’s angry, she can’t just ignore Minnie’s health! Oh, I’m so worried…”
Even as a ghost, I felt so disgusted I wanted to vomit. How could someone be this shameless? How dare she say such a thing? Just listening to her made my skin crawl.
Christian, the fool, didn’t even stop to think–he simply comforted her. “I know you’re the most sensible and kind. Don’t worry. I asked my secretary, Sam Alder. Minnie was fine when she was discharged from the hospital. She shouldn’t have a sudden relapse. I made the right decision! Clara needed this heart more.”
I instinctively reached to cover Minnie’s ears, but I was too late.
Minnie squeezed my hand. “Mom, I’m fine,” she whispered. However, her face was pale, and her eyes dim.
At that moment, I wanted nothing more than to turn into a demon and drag this vile couple straight to hell. I waved my hands wildly in front of them, but it was useless. No matter how hard I tried, they couldn’t see me.
Oblivious, Christian and Mina remained curled up together, badmouthing me.
“Rachel has always been so stubborn. If my father hadn’t liked her, I never would’ve married her,” Christian sneered. “I did the right thing! I know exactly who needed that heart more. If she can’t accept that, then too bad. Let her cry all she wants.”
For a brief moment, something flickered across Mina’s face–shock, a flash of barely hidden disgust–but then she softened, gazing at Christian with devoted adoration. “I know you’re never
wrong…”
