Chapter 5
When I realized he really had fainted, I panicked. I hurriedly called the teachers nearby, and they helped me move Yoel into my
room before leaving to call a doctor.
“There’s nothing majorly wrong with his body. He’s sleep–deprived and hasn’t eaten much recently.” The doctor shook his head
as he hooked Yoel up with an IV bag. “Who is this man to you, Felicity?”
When I came to this place, I told everyone I was an orphan and that I had no family left.
I sat there in a daze for a long time before answering the question. “I don’t know him. Get him to leave after he wakes up.”
The teachers were no fools at all. Seeing how Yoel had lost hours of sleep and starved himself because of me, they knew he wasn’t
a stranger to me.
“I’m Felicity’s husband.” Suddenly, I felt a warmth on the back of my hand. I didn’t realize when he woke up, but he was already holding my hand tightly. It was as if he was worried that I would run away again.
I pulled my hand to get out of his grip, but I failed. “Ex–husband.”
Yoel was agitated again, and he wanted to sit up immediately. “No! We haven’t gotten a divorce yet. We only had a fight.”
The doctor hurriedly pinned him down and said, “Well… Ms. Allen, the patient is extremely weak right now, so we should avoid agitating him. After all, we wouldn’t want any accidents to happen!”
The teachers exchanged glances with each other before advising me to talk it out with Yoel. I hesitated for a split second, and he wrapped his arms around my waist tightly.
“I was wrong for angering my wife, and I’m willing to do everything to make it right. Do you still need another teacher here? I graduated from Jerington University, and I can teach here too.”
Hearing that, everyone was stunned. Although Yoel looked miserable, the clothes he wore were custom–made. The Patek Philippe watch he had was at least three million dollars.
Although the doctors and teachers in the village didn’t know much about the brand, they could still recognize the diamonds on the watch face.
