My mind flashed to the dream.
Daniel standing outside the healing chamber with my brother.
Gazing at Sarah with such tender love.
Yet speaking of me with cold indifference: “I never regretted it.”
Fifteen years of my life.
My most passionate, sincere love.
Wasted on someone like him.
I laughed suddenly, yanking my leg free before the rogues could strike.
“Pathetic.”
Despite my injured ankle screaming, I let my wolf surge forth.
Claws extended, fangs bared, I tore through the rogues like paper.
Blood sprayed across the walls as I ripped throats and shattered bones.
When only Daniel remained, I shifted back to human form.
Grabbed his hair and slammed his face into the ground:

“Is this Michael’s warning? Already planning to share her between you?”
“You disgust me.”
I wiped my bloody hands on his face before heading to the great hall.
Inside, Sarah worked at her healing station.
Making the silver prevention potion I’d created.
She stood elegant in her expensive healer’s robes.
The judges watched admiringly as she mixed ingredients with practiced grace.
“Snch talent,” they murmured. “Beauty and power combined.”
Just like my engagement party, when she climbed over my broken body – breathtakingly beautiful.
I sprinted down the center aisle.
Knocked aside guards and officials trying to stop me.
With one leap, my wolf form landed on stage
In that spotlight, I knocked her brewing station flying.
Pinned her under my claws as herbs scattered everywhere.
Her eyes went wide with shock as I snarled:
“Keep brewing, little thief!”
“Send your mate to cripple me, then steal my work?”
My fangs gleamed inches from her throat.
Of course I knew.
The Dean of the Royal Healing Academy sat in the audience.
In my past life, after seeing Sarah’s healing demonstration,
He’d offered her one of only three spots at the Academy.
That was just the beginning of her rise.
Later, through Michael’s careful planning, she became the apprentice of the Academy’s greatest Master Healer.
