leave it to Bernice to handle

Bernice’s eyes were reddened with tears. She thanked and apologized to me

I nodded and accepted her apology. When the case is over, make sure to notify me about the funeral.”

With that statement, I made myself a stranger to her. Bernice looked at me incredulously. After all, I had always been the one

most concerned with their family matters

She sensed something was amiss and tried to persuade me, Fiona, my dear future sisterinlaw, please don’t blame Dylan.”

I shook my head. I wouldn’t blame Dylan. If anyone was to blame, it was me. I didn’t see through his true colors

I laughed and replied, There’s no need to call me your future sisterinlaw anymore.”

I turned and left, heading to the apartment where Dylan and I were meant to live after marriage. We were supposed to get married

next month, but now, it seemed unnecessary

I didn’t expect to run into Dylan and Lauren at the apartment

When I opened the door, Lauren was sitting on the couch in my pajamas, and Dylan was making soup for her

Upon seeing me, Dylan’s face showed a flash of panic but quickly returned to calm. He explained, Lauren fell into the sea. I was worried that she might catch a cold.”

When we were together, Dylan never once stepped into the kitchen. He always said that he couldn’t stand the oily smoke. Yet, he

wore an apron for Lauren and showed her immense concern

Lauren looked at me and said, My clothes are soaked, so I borrowed your pajamas. I’ll wash them and return them to you later.”

Lauren pouted and was about to say something when Dylan, looking distressed, asked, What do you mean by that? Why are you

looking down on Lauren?”

Lauren quickly played the victim. I’m the one at fault. Don’t let me come between you and Dylan. I won’t drink the soup

anymore. I’ll go home.”

As she was about to leave, Dylan grabbed her by the arm. It’s so late. Where are you going? Sit down and relax.”

So, was I supposed to leave

I watched them flirt with each other and sneered. I continued into the apartment to pack my things. When I was about to leave, Dylan blocked my way

What are you up to now? Are you planning to run away?”

I looked at him calmly before saying, Dylan, let’s break

up.”
