I finally felt at ease when I learned that Dylan had been arrested. I dismissed my security team and was ready to step outside.
again.
The case attracted significant attention, and soon, the court took it up. Dylan was convicted.
For various r
reasons, he wasn’t sentenced to death but received ten years in prison.
After he was transferred to prison, Bernice came to see me, saying that Dylan wanted to meet me one last time.
I refused.
A few days later, Bernice came by again. She said that Dylan had transferred all his assets to me. She suspected that he didn’t want to live anymore and begged me to visit him, afraid he might do something irreversible.
Unable to stand her constant tears, I finally agreed.
When I saw Dylan through the glass, I almost didn’t recognize him. He repented for a long time, then finally asked if I was willing
to wait for him.
I shook my head and returned all the money he had given me.
As I turned to leave, I said one last thing to him. “Dylan, I’ve repaid everything I owed you. However, you’ll never be able to repay what you owe me in this lifetime.”

Dylan was briefly silent before suddenly letting out a laugh.
“I was still hopeful, but you’ve also been reborn. I suppose it’s time for me to wake up from my dream.”
Lignored him.
Then he said, “Fiona, don’t worry. I’ll make it up to you.”
A few days later, the news reported that Dylan had committed suicide in prison.
They said that he tried to escape by climbing onto the electric fence. However, many believed that he had deliberately electrocuted himself because, in his final moments, he was smiling.
I attended his funeral. Bernice cried her heart out. In just a few months, she had lost her entire family.
I hugged her and wished her well. And I wished myself well, too.
As I walked away from the funeral, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders.
I knew I would never have to live in fear again, nor would I have nightmares anymore.
