Soren froze in that instant. He was still in disbelief as he took the hospital report and looked at my flat stomach. Eventually, he
loosened his grip.
“A stillborn? How could it be a stillborn…” he murmured before aggressively interrogating me as if he had lost his sanity. “Tell
me–how did the baby end up a stillborn? What have you done to our child?
“Were you jealous because I didn’t come home, so you secretly had an affair that resulted in the death of our child? Well? Answer
me!” His face contorted into a terrifying scowl. It was as though he could burst at any second with rage.
Still, I only snorted. “Don’t paint me out to be someone as vile as you, Soren. As for what happened, shouldn’t you think deeper
about what I said when I called you a few days ago?”
Soren’s eyes widened with surprise and fear as if he dared not recall our phone call.
I glared daggers at him. “Didn’t I tell you that my stomach hurt and I was bleeding a lot? Did I not ask you to save me?
“What did you say to me at the time? You said you were busy saving Jenna and complained that I’m always causing too much
trouble! Do you even know that the entire building caught on fire, and I nearly died from suffocation?” O
Soren couldn’t believe his ears. He shook his head, exclaiming, “No, I just—”
I couldn’t be bothered with him anymore. Instead, I whipped around to face Zach. “And you! Didn’t Jules call you to say the fire
was likely arson? What was your reply when she told you that?
“You said her and my intelligence levels were lowered because of ‘baby brain‘! You blamed her for interrupting you from
working! You even told her that I was a negative influence on her, that you wanted us to be imprisoned and given the worst
sentence possible!
“Now, I’d like to ask you two a question. You two are married, yet you abandoned your pregnant wives and couldn’t care less
