Soren seemed so meek and cautious in that instant.
I had never seen him act this way when we were dating and throughout our marriage. He was like a nervous child who had gotten
caught for doing something wrong.
That said, he should have realized his mistakes sooner.
“So what if you know you messed up? It doesn’t mean I have to forgive you.” I calmly met his eyes and shook my head. “There’s
no use delaying things, Soren. You and I are over for good.”
“But we’ve investigated the truth, Elsie! Jenna was the one who cut the wire in our building’s electrical room. She then put a
timed device that would ignite into flames there and went to a skyscraper dozens of miles away. She staged an abduction to get
Soren and I to rescue her!
“She did all that to see who we’d choose when she and you two were in critical danger. Moreover, she put the note inside the
parcel. You were right about it!
“Jenna has always been rotten to the core, yet Soren and I thought she was innocent and kind. It’s all because we were unable to
discern her true nature.
“We’re at fault, and we’ve made a grave mistake! Not only have we hurt you two, but we also caused the deaths of our children!
“However, we never had inappropriate relationships with Jenna! I swear we only treated her as a friend. Otherwise, why would we
have chosen to marry you
two? 1
“Elsie, Jules, can you please reconsider the divorce?” Zach stepped forward, speaking so urgently like he was about to cry.
Zach had never addressed me as Elsie, like Juliet did, from the moment we met until now. Yet, here he was, throwing around that
nickname with such ease. Well, it was too late!
In the meantime, Juliet raised the raunchy, highly suggestive photograph and sneered. “When you say you two only treated her as
a friend… do you mean the kind of friend where you don’t have to be dressed around? The kind who can kiss your neck?”
“How did you get that?” Soren’s eyes widened. “It’s not what you guys think! At the time, Jenna splashed some water onto me while I was washing the vegetables. That’s why I took off my shirt!”
Zach immediately chimed in, “It’s the same for me! Jenna said my neck turned red because of an allergy, so she helpedme apply some cream. Nothing happened, but…”
Juliet scoffed tauntingly. “But?”
“A female co–worker of mine informed me that it wasn’t an allergy cream at all–it was a color–changing lipstick. Most men like me don’t normally deal with cosmetic products, so I didn’t think that would be the case.
“Elsie, Jules, this is all Jenna’s doing. She wanted to make you guys angry and get you to divorce us! Don’t fall for her tricks!”
