I was indeed keen on returning to the company, but I have not been working for the past five years.
Samuel placed his cutleries down and looked at me. “You’ll get the hang of it quickly with your abilities. Have you forgotten the version of yourself that thrived so brightly in the business world?”
My heart was beating wildly. I could still remember the joy I felt when I signed my very first deal.
I nodded and agreed to return to the company.
I went back home with Samuel two days later for Dad’s birthday. There, I nervously told my parents, “I got a divorce.”
Dad’s expression darkened. He raised his hand as if he was about to hit me.
“Dad!” Samuel yelled.
Mom rushed over to stand in front of me and hugged me. She was choked in sobs as she shouted at Dad, “What are you doing? We’ve already ruined her life up until now! She’s an adult who can make her own decisions. We should just return her life to her!”
