“Alright, let’s go back.”
Before heading to Hilltown, I stopped by a specialty shop to pick up some gifts for the locals.
Unexpectedly, I ran into Sharon’s mother, Nancy Hall, in the parking lot..

Soft music played in the background of the café.
We sat by the window, sunlight filtering through the glass.
She lifted her chin slightly, the diamond pendant around her neck swaying with the movement.
Without any pleasantries, she got straight to the point.
“I’ve seen plentue
of girls like you–small–town nobodies, terrified of going back to a life of poverty. The moment you find a rich
man, you latch on for dear life.”
Her tone carried an air of superiority, every word dripping with contempt.
“But
you
should know that Noah is married to my daughter. They are equals, well–matched in every way, a proper marriage. And
you are the mistress who came between them.”
I lifted my head, meeting her gaze without a flicker of hesitation.
A faint smile played on my lips, my posture calm and composed.
“You’re his elder, so I’ll address you as ma’am.
“It’s true that I come from a small town, but I’ve always worked hard to support myself. I studied diligently, earned my way into
a top university, and after graduation, I built a career through my own efforts.
“If you insist on talking about who came first, then I met Noah before your daughter did. We loved each other long before she was
in the picture.”
I took out forty dollars from my wallet and placed it on the table.
“Ma’am, I don’t believe being born in a small town means I have to be beneath anyone. Coffee is coffee–you can afford it, and so
can I.
“And let’s not forget, Noah is also from a small town. Yet, you still chose to marry your daughter to him.”
With that, I picked up my bag and stood to leave.
Nancy arched a brow.
