After SAT, I removed my black–framed glasses, adjusted my bangs, and began learning how to put on makeup. I even got myself a new dress. Our class organized a party, and Nash and Yvonne attended.
Yvonne wore an expensive, trendy outfit and had a mature makeup look, making her seem much older than we were. On the other hand, Nash didn’t wear any eccentric clothing this time; he simply wore a white dress shirt, perhaps as a farewell to his high school days. He had dyed his hair blonde because Yvonne liked that color.
Our homeroom teacher couldn’t bear to see the once–brilliant young man now reduced to this state, so she left the party after a while. Nash’s gaze had been on me the whole time, and he seemed surprised by my transformation. During a drinking game, when Yvonne noticed Nash’s gaze, her face immediately
darkened.
Coincidentally, my desk mate glanced disdainfully at Yvonne and said, “Look at our campus hottie, Yvonne, all decked out in designer brands…”
Yvonne raised an eyebrow, about to show off her pride but my desk mate continued, “If you didn’t know any better, you might mistake her for a nightclub girl from some fancy club; even the designer clothes couldn’t hide it.”
Her voice was loud, and the private room suddenly fell silent.
Yvonne was quite high–profile at school, being both beautiful and having a rich boyfriend. However, her academic performance was horrible, and her behavior didn’t help either, so the girls in the class didn’t want to hang out with her.
“I was wondering who it was, turns out it’s Wendy’s lapdog. What’s the matter, your master looking for some company? Jealous, huh? Sending you out to bite people randomly? Hmph, some people are so hypocritical. They get jealous and then resort to sneaky tactics behind people’s backs, too afraid to confront the situation themselves,” she taunted, looking provocatively at me.
“Yvonne, we’re all classmates; your words are just too harsh,” a fellow student who couldn’t stand her spoke up.
Yvonne ignored them, her gaze fixed firmly on me.
The last time Yvonne caused me to injure myself and miss the math competition, our homeroom teacher ordered her to publicly apologize.
Feeling insulted, Yvonne sought revenge indiscriminately in any situation.
My desk mate had a fiery temper and stood up to retort, “This is hilarious. Who’s jealous of your man? Only you treasure Nash. In everyone else’s eyes, what is he? An artist with a disabled hand, a bottom- tier student who can’t get into college?”
Upon hearing these words, Nash’s face darkened, and the onlookers‘ expressions, like they were watching a show, made the usually proud Nash find it somewhat unbearable
