Then his family moved away, and I slowly forgot about him.
I couldn’t believe it–that little boy was Edmond!
I was too stunned to think about anything else as Edmond leaned down and gently kissed me.
Soon after, Edmond and I got married.
Our wedding made the front page of the city’s newspapers after all, the heir to Maltimum Enterprise getting married was big news.
After the ceremony, I moved into Edmond’s villa in the city center.
But the very next day, two unexpected guests showed up at our door.
Zeke and Hendrick, looking unkempt with scruffy beards, were worlds apart from their past selves, who once cared so much about their appearance.
Zeke reached for my hand, but Edmond pushed him away. “What are you two doing here?”
Zeke, with an overly sweet smile, said, “Trish, we know we were wrong. Please, don’t leave us… We never really liked Vivian. We just wanted to make you jealous, to get you to choose one of us to marry…”
“We never thought Vivian would go that far. We failed to see that. Trish, please forgive us. Let’s go back to how we were before, okay? We’ve cut ties with Vivian now. From now on, it will be just you and us!”
“Trish, I can’t live without you…. Please come back. After all, this is just a loveless marriage, bound by obligation, right?”
Tears and snot streamed down their faces as they pleaded with me.
But their last words clearly struck a nerve with Edmond. “Who says this is a loveless marriage? We love each other.
I nodded slightly. “Zeke, Hendrick, didn’t I make myself clear last time? We don’t need to see each other again. And please, have some self–respect and stop showing up at my door.”
“Trish! You can’t treat us like this!”
“Trish! You’re just a gold–digger! You’ll get what’s coming to you!”
When they saw I wasn’t budging, Zeke and Hendrick began shouting insults.
But before they could say much more, they were escorted out by security.
I never saw them again. Occasionally, I’d hear bits and pieces from Payton.
Apparently, being 30 million in debt, Vivian worked herself to the bone but was unable to repay it. In the end, she turned to working in bars and somehow contracted HIV.
As for Zeke and Hendrick, they were both crushed by long–term business pressure from Maltimum Enterprise. One couldn’t handle it and jumped off a building to his death, while the other borrowed money from loan sharks to cover company losses, only to be chased down and lose a hand.
Beautiful women were often a source of trouble, and in their case, it couldn’t be more true. If they hadn’t been so raptivated by Vivian, they wouldn’t have ended up like this,
But it didn’t matter anymore. I had no more ties to them. The only thing that mattered to me now was preparing dinner for my husband.
A new chapter of happiness was unfolding before me.
