Liam drank too much and started vomiting violently. He eventually slid off his chair and fell asleep on the floor. On the other hand, my mother was still mumbling to herself.
My father stood in silence for a moment before walking into the kitchen. Soon, he returned and slowly approached my mother.
“Miranda,” he said evenly. “The children are dead. Why don’t we join them?”
My mother was still in a daze and failed to understand what he meant.
“Look at Vanessa,” my father continued, his tone filled with urgency and worry. “She suffered so much while alive. Now that she’s dead, do you think the other ghosts will bully her?”
As he spoke, he stabbed the knife into my mother. “We should hurry and go protect her!”
My mother was startled by the pain assaulting her body and finally came to her senses. A sharp pain shot through her chest, causing her to fall to the ground in fear. She reached out and felt a warm, wet patch beneath her.
As her eyes followed the trail, she saw Liam lying motionless on the floor. His eyes were wide open, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
A scream escaped my mother’s lips, which only enraged my father further. He swung the knife wildly, striking her again and again. “All of you must die! You must pay for what you did to my daughter!”
My mother’s struggles gradually weakened. Soon, she lay still.
Then, my father collapsed into the pool of blood, smiling as he looked at my photo. “It’s okay, Vanessa. I have killed all the bad people for you.”
Alas, I had turned away from the scene the second he started his killing spree, unable to bear the bloody scene before me.
