Chapter 10
didn’t remember Isaac ever seeming this pathetic in front of me before.
“Stop fighting It, Isaac,” I responded evenly. “It’s not that embarrassing to admit that your feelings changed. While I believe that you did truly love me once, it’s also true that you’ve had a change of heart.”
Isaac frantically cut me off, saying, “That’s not true. I still love you, Vicky. You have to believe me.”
Laughing, I said, “You say you love ine, but you don’t even remember my preferences. The food and snacks you buy for me are all Jenny’s favorites. You claim to love me, but you give me the same gifts you give Jenny. You call it love, but you don’t even remember my birthday or our anniversary.
“You tell me you love me, but in a moment of danger, you forgot all about me and ran toward someone else instead. Is this what love is to you, Isaac? Well, in that case, your love is rather worthless, isn’t it?”
Isaac grew agitated when he saw how unmoved I was by his declaration of love.
“I know I’ve done many things I shouldn’t have, Vicky. When I was waiting for you just now, I finally got a taste of what it’s like to wait for someone. I’m sorry for having made you wait for me so many times in the past.
“I know I did a terrible job at being your boyfriend. You have every right to be upset. I’m just begging for you to give me another chance, Vicky. I’ll change. I’ll do everything right.”
Isaac choked as he continued, “I’ll learn to cook for you. I’ll share the housework with you. I’ll pick you up from work every day. I won’t ever eat anything cooked by someone else ever again. I’ll eat all of your favorite things with you.
“If you want to go on holiday, I’ll follow you wherever you go. I won’t ever forget your birthday or any of our anniversaries ever again. I won’t leave you behind when someone else calls me.‘
I stared at him in silence, my face emotionless.
