Chapter 9
“Yes, it’s a confession. Will you accept it?”
I smiled and replied, “I will. Let’s give it a try.”
We exchanged a knowing smile before Sigmund leaned down and kissed me.
Just then, the door suddenly opened.
“Dia, 1-“My mom’s voice cut in.
I practically leapt away, my face burning.
She stood in the doorway, awkwardly laughing. “Oh, um, just remembered something. I’ll step out for a bit. You two enjoy yourselves.”
She quickly shut the door and disappeared.
Feeling embarrassed, I smacked Sigmund on the arm. “This is your fault! She saw us!”
“Doesn’t matter. She’ll understand. After all, I’ve been single for so many years!”
I was completely stunned. I couldn’t believe he was saying something like that at his age.
I playfully swatted his back and dragged him home with me
As it turned out, despite his age, Sigmund’s stamina was impressive–I was still weak in the knees the next day.
Sigmund kept his word too. He made me the most influential person in the Hopkins family. Even Jasmine dared not raise her voice around me anymore.
A year later, I was pregnant.
During Thanksgiving, the whole family came together for dinner, but Liam was noticeably absent.
After the meal, Jasmine finally broke her silence, unable to hold back. “I owe you an apology.”
I blinked in surprise, waiting as she continued.
“When you were with Liam, I did everything I could to stop it. Later, when you became my sister–in–law, Liam regretted it. He even begged me to help, but I knew it was too late. You were already with Sigmund. There’s no way you would get back together with him.”
I nodded calmly. “I wouldn’t. Liam needs to focus on moving forward.”
I knew what she was hinting at. She was worried Liam was under too much pressure abroad and wanted to bring him back.
But it wasn’t like he was stranded on some distant planet. He could board a plane and return anytime. If he wasn’t willing to come home, that was his own problem.
“Besides,” Jasmine sighed, “that Hall girl will never be welcomed into this family. Dia, could you talk to him? Ask him to come back and visit us?”
I frowned. “Liam is an adult, and this is the time for him to build his career. Sigmund didn’t get married until he was thirty. Stop worrying so much.”
Her expression froze, and I couldn’t help but smirk inwardly.
