After her release, Fiona somehow found my contact information. She sent a message saying she wanted to meet, to apologize. She claimed that over the years, she had changed and wanted to turn over a new leaf.
I didn’t bother replying. Just deleted the message and blocked her number.
Not long after, a relative from my hometown sent me a surveillance video. It turned out, once Fiona got out, she arranged to meet with all of us–me, Mom, and Dad.
She hadn’t changed. She wanted revenge.

I never showed up, but my parents did. She met them separately. Each time, she waited until traffic was heavy, the roads crowded with speeding trucks. Then, with a calculated push, she sent them into the chaos.
Dad was hit first. The truck sent him flying. He died on the spot.
His death mirrored that of his mistress. A fitting end.
Mom was luckier. She got pulled under the wheels but survived. Barely. Her face was crushed beyond recognition, a grotesque mask she would wear for the rest of her life.
Fiona was arrested again, barely out of prison before she was dragged back in.
Lying in a hospital bed, Mom begged to see me. She sent messages through relatives, hoping I’d come visit. I ignored them all until one day, tired of the pestering, I picked up the phone and called her.
“When I was a kid and had a fever, didn’t you ignore me too?”
Silence.
I hung up. After that, she never tried to contact me again.
Fiona was released a final time, only to return to prison shortly after, her body wasting away from AIDS. She became little more than skin and bones. One night, burning with fever, she died quietly in her cell.
