Chapter 10
Everyone stared at me in stunned silence, which only made me feel a little self–conscious.
“Wow, Sora, you’re incredible! You have to teach my son Spanish someday,” Leslie said, eyes practically sparkling.
Others chimed in, offering genuine praise.
Pierce clapped me on the shoulder.
“I knew it. There was no way a guy like you just dropped out for good. You were always one of the smartest in class.
Meanwhile, Wade’s face turned bright red.
He knew exactly how valuable those qualifications were.
Every word he had just thrown at me now felt like a slap to his own face.
And worse, he had antagonized the one person he should never have crossed–Kian.
Regret weighed down on him, crushing whatever arrogance he had left.
The smugness was gone, replaced by sheer panic.
Without another word, Kian turned to the waiter.
“Put everything on Homer Enterprises‘ tab.
Then, just like that, he led me out of the room.
Pierce hurried after him. “Mr. Homer, thank you! This place is ridiculously expensive. Your generosity means a lot.
The gratitude in his voice was genuine.
A single meal here could cost several thousands dollars, and yet Kian covered it without a second thought.
It wasn’t until we stepped into the lobby that I suddenly remembered Angela.
She sat there in the waiting area, patiently sipping tea.
And just like that, the dull ache I was suppressing spread through my chest.
The bitterness finally caught up to me.
“You’re on a date. I’ll head back first. Don’t want to interrupt.”
I turned to leave, but Kian grabbed my wrist, stopping me in my tracks.
Without a word, he dragged me straight toward Angela.
When we reached her, Kian spoke calmly, “Angela, I’ll have the driver take you home. Alex will handle the follow- ups with the Cooper Group.”
She looked up, smiling brightly. “Got it, got it! No worries, my dear cousin. I need to head out anyway. My boyfriend’s been waiting forever.”
And with that, she bolted out the door, her demure grace completely abandoned.
