Dominic was baffled. “Stop joking around. This is the 10th floor. I’ll die if I jump down from here!”
I sneered. “Weren’t you pulling my leg earlier?” After all, how dare he ask for a reconciliation when he had done all those terrible things to me?
Dominic was a proud man, and he was unable to handle such mockery. So, he snarled, “I wouldn’t have married you if you weren’t rich. Do you really think you’re someone special? I would never consider being with you even if you wanted to start over!”
“Oh? Did I hit a nerve?” I asked while raising an eyebrow.
Dominic was boiling with rage. “You wretched woman! The only one I love is Paige. Once she gets out of prison, we’ll get married! We’ll live happily ever after, and you’ll regret your decision today!” Then, he stormed off angrily.
As I watched him leave, I couldn’t help but think that love was indeed a strange thing. When I loved Dominic, I always thought that whatever he did was perfect. Yet, that all seemed to disappear once that love was gone.
Instead, I would feel embarrassed whenever I recalled that I had once fallen in love with someone like Dominic!
After Dominic’s scandal died down, he was reinstated at the school. Unfortunately, he was still unable to attract any sponsors when he started his new project. Then, he manipulated a wealthy young girl who had a crush on him into stealing money from her family.
Soon, the girl’s parents found out about the entire plot and contacted the school and media. After that, Dominic was immediately
fired.
It was tough for a teacher with such a stain on his record to find work at a reputable institution. So, he ended up at a private
school.
His life went downhill, especially with his family constantly causing trouble.
Seven years later, Paige was released from prison, and Dominic excitedly went to pick her up. Yet, they got into an argument ove
something during the journey home. It seemed that Paige grabbed the steering wheel, which then caused them to be in an
accident.
Both of them were pierced by the steel rods during the crash.
Lauren recounted the story to me.
When she brought up their names, I felt nothing.
“What
goes
around comes around, indeed. Let’s stop talking about them. At least take a look at my bridesmaid dress. Tomorrow
your wedding, not mine. Can we stop obsessing over my dress?”
Alas, Lauren wasn’t having any of my words. “Absolutely not! This is my wedding, and my best friend has to stun the crowd! That’ll make me look good! Come on, this one’s gorgeous too. Try it!”
I let out a weary sigh and begrudgingly trudged back to the fitting room.
