James had arrived. Sophie was still streaming, crying his arms, playing the victim while her viewers raged, threatening to expose me as a homewrecker.
I laughed, logged into my account, and posted our marriage certificate, tagging Sophie. I calmly watched her followers melt down before closing my laptop.
The next day was Saturday, and I had plans with Alex.
After our meeting, Alex drove me home, where we found James waiting at my door.
Unusually for him, cigarette butts littered the ground at his feet.
He saw me and rushed over, gripping my shoulders, his bloodshot eyes full of hatred.
“Rachel, how fucking dare you? You got pregnant and had an abortion behind my back? Are you sick? If
fans hadn’t dug it up, you would have kept me in the dark forever!”
“That was my child! What right did you have to end their life? You’re still as cruel as ever!”
I broke free from his grip, stepping back beside Alex. “What are you raving about?”
James’s gaze fell on Alex, and he let out a cold laugh. “Already found someone new? Fine. Want a divorce? I bet the papers are ready. I’ll sign them right now!”
Fed up, I handed him the divorce agreement Alex and had prepared. “Then there’s nothing left to say. Let’s end this cleanly.”
James hesitated with the pen, his red eyes scanning my stomach before signing quickly. He threw the papers at me, his voice hoarse.
“Rachel, you’re heartless.”
I laughed internally – no one could be more heartless than James.
Getting the divorce certificate was surprisingly smooth. As James walked away looking lost, I called out.”
Wait.”
“Don’t you want to know when I lost the baby?”
He looked up at me with defeated eyes. I spoke slowly. ‘At the cocktail party, when Sophie noticed I was pregnant, faked a fall, and you shoved me away.”
James stood frozen, like struck by lightning. But I wasn’t done. “Remember now? It was you who killed your own child, for another woman.”
“You know, the bleeding took so long to stop.”
