His face flushed slightly as he scratched his head. “One of my students told me about it.”
I threw myself fully into preparing for the SATs, while Quinn bought books to start learning computer science.
The coming decades would be the age of rapid internet development, and we were not about to miss out on the opportunities it would bring.
Amid our hard work, news came that Sadie and Henry were getting married.
She sent someone to deliver an invitation, asking me to join the celebration.
Sadie and I had shared half a lifetime of friendship, one I had thought was as close as sisters. I never imagined we would end up like this because of a man.
This time, I wanted to see for myself whether marrying Henry would bring her the happiness she longed for.
On her wedding day, her expression was unreadable in her white wedding dress.

Henry, on the other hand, was beaming with joy, drinking is way from one end of the banquet table to the other. When he drunkenly tried to take Sadie’s hand, she subtly moved away from him. I watched the scene unfold on the side, unsure of how to feel.
By late afternoon, Quinn came to pick me up after his class. He was wearing a new shirt and slacks I had bought for him, looking effortlessly handsome.
I could not resist planting two quick kisses on his cheek.
As I climbed onto his bicycle, my gaze met Sadie’s. She saw Quinn, and for a moment, her eyes sparkled with admiration.
Quinn, however, looked only at me. He smiled as he adjusted my pant leg, and said, “Let’s go.”
A few days later, Sadie came to my door. She was fidgeting awkwardly while apologizing
“Ren… I was wrong. Please don’t ignore me anymore,” she said.
I did not reply, simply inviting her in to sit for a while.
After that day, she seemed to forget all about our falling out, and would frequently visit my house.
Sometimes, she lingered until dinner and would glance toward the door. “Dr. Green isn’t back from work yet? He must be working so hard.”
The “Dr. Green” she mentioned had been avoiding her by staying late to teach evening classes for a week straight. I did not call her out on it, choosing instead to smile.
