Chapter 11
The scar on her check moved up and down with the movement of her mouth, making it especially jarring to watch.
The man roared, “Shut up! If it weren’t for you forcing me to quit my job and move to Brooksville, would I have gotten into that car accident and ended up disabled?”
“Now I’ve lost my hand and can’t find work, and you’re the one complaining? I’m telling you, this is all your fault, you cursed woman!”
It turned out to be Henry. It seemed like, after everything, they were still together.
Henry’s clothes were tattered, his face darkened by grime, and his right sleeve hung empty.
His expression twisted with rage as he raised his hand to strike Sadie.
“This is all your fault! All of it! I could’ve had a wonderful wife, a stable job. We could’ve bought a house and a car. I could’ve become a chief engineer and been respected in the industry! You ruined everything!”
People rushed to hold him back, and helplessness finally overcame him.
Henry crumpled to his knees, clutching his head as tears streamed down his face. It was hard to tell if they were from regret or pain.
“Why did you come back for me? Why?”
Even now, he could not see that the blame did not lie solely with Sadie.
