I lost my balance out of surprise and fell on top of him. My face was buried into his bare chest.
Embarrassed, I tried to get off Samuel, but the rocking lounge chair made it hard to find a stable point to push off. As soon as I tried to sit up, the chair wobbled and I fell back onto his chest.
How embarrassing! I wasn’t even doing this on purpose.
Samuel steadied my waist as he sat up and stopped the lounge chair from rocking.
“What are you doing, Naomi?” he asked, his voice hoarse from sleep.
I lifted the blanket and covered my face in embarrassment. “I was just trying to tuck you in.”
Samuel chuckled deeply, his chest vibrating in response. Only then I realized I was still sitting in his lap.
Humiliated, I threw the blanket over his head, quickly climbed off his lap, and rushed back into my room.
I was getting the hang of the company’s operation over the past few days. Now, I was relaxed enough to be humming a tune while
walking.
I then noticed Yohan’s car in the neighborhood parking lot. I grumbled at my luck and mentally counted down the days until I could finally retrieve my divorce certificate from the courthouse.
However, Julian was blocking the way to the elevator.
“Daddy made me come here for you.” He was still holding a grudge, wanting me to stop reading into things.
“He asked me to apologize to you,” Julian said haughtily, avoiding my gaze. “I’m sorry, I was just pulling a prank when I called.

Emily “mommy” the last time.”
He pouted and continued, “Who would’ve thought you really lost your memories?”
“It’s alright,” I softly said.
Julian turned to look at me, his eyes lit up.
I glanced at him and continued, “Your Daddy and I have already divorced. You don’t have to apologize to me the next time you
call someone else your ‘mommy“.”
“Emily will become your new mommy soon. She’s a nice person, and you happen to like her. You’ll all live a happy life moving
forward.”
Julian trailed after me all the way to the entrance of my house. He refused to leave.
“Do you have anything else? If not, I’ll shut the door now,” I said.
Julian widened his eyes in disbelief. “I can’t believe you refused to forgive me when I already apologized to you! You’ll surely
regret this!”
With tearful eyes, he stubbornly stared at me as the door was about to close. It was his first time being treated coldly by me.
He angrily shouted at the door, “How dare you treat me like this! Don’t come begging for my forgiveness once your memories return! I won’t ever forgive you no matter what you do!”
The first time I heard Julian utter such words to me, I hid in my room and cried in secret.
I kept doubting myself and wondered if I hadn’t raised him right. I questioned the reason my own son had disliked me, and thought if I was not worthy of being a mother.
But it was different now–I felt nothing inside. My familial bond with Julian had already been severed the moment he called
someone else his mommy.
