The car doors swung open in unison, and a group of men in black suits, their chests embroidered with the Genovese family crest, stepped out swiftly.
Their gazes were cold, and each one held a gun.
Merla’s former cheer squad stumbled backward in fear, some covering their mouths as they held their breath, too terrified to make a sound.
Merla immediately dropped the iron rod in her hands and put on a bright smile. “My, what an honor! Why didn’t you let me know in advance? I would’ve prepared something.”
She forced herself to stay composed, stepping forward with a fawning tone.
However, no one paid her any attention.
A tall man wearing black leather gloves strode forward, his expression grim as he spoke in a deep voice, “Clear the largest conference room. The Queen of the Genovese family is holding a meeting here with the district leaders.”
For a moment, the air turned deathly still.
Merla’s cheer squad immediately stood at attention, stiff and obedient like schoolchildren waiting for a scolding, terrified that saying the wrong thing would get them dragged away as target practice.
I was the only one who remained motionless, standing my ground.
Merla’s eye twitched as she turned and snapped, “Nicole! Did you hear that, you idiot? Get out of the way!”
