After leaving our mansion, Lydia continuously sent me letters, each more frantic than the last. My writing set remained in Amber’s possession, the elegant paper vibrating with each urgent knock at the door as messengers delivered Lydia’s correspondence.
Amber, perhaps fearing Lydia might contact the Alpha, forged a quick response using my stationery: “Don’t report to the Alpha,
I’m fine.”
The message was nothing like my usual writing style–too brief, too cold. Instead of reassuring Lydia, it only heightened her suspicions, and her letters became even more desperate.
Growing nervous, Amber hid my writing set in the water tank of her bathroom toilet, then departed with my father and Elise for
their “vacation.”
I followed them, my spirit bound to the living family members who had caused my death.
During their trip, besides the usual tourist activities, my father took Elise to a specialized wolf healer–one known for catering to high–ranking pack members.
Elise’s pregnancy had been unexpected, but now that it was happening, my father was fixated on having a son–an heir to carry
on his legacy in a way I never could.
Regular doctors couldn’t determine a wolf pup’s gender this early, but this particular healer used ancient methods passed down
through generations
When they learned it was indeed a male pup, my father’s face lit up with a joy I hadn’t seen in years. He suddenly looked a decade
younger, his eyes bright with anticipation.
“Perfect, perfect!” he exclaimed, squeezing Elise’s hand. “I’ll name him Dominic. He’ll inherit my Beta position.”
They returned to the hotel beaming, just as Amber was coming back from her shopping excursion. My father had given her an unlimited card to keep her occupied.
Seeing their triumphant expressions, she casually asked what had happened.
“Amber, my dear,” Elise announced, one hand protectively over her still–flat stomach, “you’re going to have a baby brother.
When you’ve joined another pack with your mate someday, he’ll be here to protect our family interests.”
They were so absorbed in their happiness that they completely missed Amber’s frozen expression.
“You’re certain it’s a boy?” she asked, her voice unnaturally controlled.
“Absolutely,” my father confirmed proudly. “The healer was clear. I finally have an heir to continue my bloodline.”
Amber forced a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Congratulations, Dad and Mom. I’m going to be a big sister.”
