Chapter 7
The group of us headed outside.
Bruce was brutally beating Kerry, violently kicking and punching her abdomen.
“How dare you use your unborn child to threaten me! If you hadn’t seduced me, Nancy wouldn’t have married someone else! She
clearly loved me!”
Bruce was surprised to see me.
“Look, Nancy, I really don’t like her at all! Give me the word, and I’ll kill her.”
I never saw Bruce turn violent before. Seeing all of that made me glad I left him.
Kerry was wailing in pain as she hugged her abdomen, her white gown stained with her blood. Her face turned pale, and she was
sweating profusely. She was finally not pretending to be injured.
“You… You killed my son, Bruce! I’ll haunt you even when I’m a ghost!”
Kerry crawled over to me and tried to touch my shoe, grunting, “Nancy, Bruce was the one who made you lose your sight.”
Bruce maniacally charged at her when he heard what Kerry was saying. “You liar! How dare you accuse me! I’ll kill you.”
Before he could pounce on her, Aaron’s bodyguards pinned him to the ground. He roared in retaliation, wanting nothing more
than to see Kerry dead.
Kerry looked at Bruce’s murderous glare and chuckled. Tears fell from her eyes, but she continued, “Back then, his family’s
business was failing. He needed to get investors, but no one would invest. No one would help him.
“He knew that you liked him, so he set up a ‘hero saving a damsel in distress‘ moment, but he accidentally overdosed on the drug,
so you turned blind. He went along with it and proposed to you, saving his family business along the way.
“After that, he started to get embarrassed about taking you out, so he turned his eyes to me because I looked like you.
“I turned him down, I did! I only wanted to take good care of you because you rescued me from that small town.
“But then he started giving me lots of promises. He told me how much he loved me. No one has ever said that to me before.”
Kerry’s face paled. The stench of blood in the air got even thicker. She sobbed quietly, no longer the arrogant bully that she was.
I bent down and looked at her. “But you were still superficial. I’m sure you enjoyed sleeping with him and being pursued, right?”
