Early the next morning, I received a call from Daniel.
“Hello?” I answered groggily. “Who is it?”
“It’s me.” His voice came through, deep and gentle like a cello. “Sorry, did I wake you?”
My sleepiness vanished instantly as I sat up. “No, not at all!”
“Is there something you need?”
“It’s nothing urgent,” his tone was as casual as discussing the weather. “Since we’re married now, I realized my place is too far
from your workplace.
“I thought we could look at some places today, find somewhere we can live together.”
“Oh, right.” It suddenly hit me that as a married couple, we should be living together.
“Are you free now? I’m waiting downstairs.”
I peered out the window to see him standing by his car, tall and handsome.
“I’ll be right down!”
I got ready in record time and rushed downstairs.
“Sorry, were you waiting long?”
“Not at all.” He smiled, opening the car door for me. “I looked at some nice neighborhoods last night. We can check them out
together and decide.”
“Okay.” I nodded, touched by his thoughtfulness.
When I was with James Carter, I wasn’t just his assistant–I was practically his housekeeper, handling every little thing for him.
Now, someone was finally taking care of me for a change.
