I could no longer tell which of his sentences contained the truth and which were lies, but it no longer mattered. I didn’t care anymore. Exhaling, I declared, “It’s not important anymore, Isaac. Things are over between us. You don’t have to explain anything to me.”
Isaac shot to his feet in agitation, but the pain that came from his injured leg made him gasp. Once again, he started sweating profusely. Gritting his teeth through the pain, he tried to do what he could to salvage our relationship.
“Vicky, I know I made a mistake. I know I hurt you deeply. You have no idea how scared I was to lose you when I realized it was you in the car. It felt as if the sky came crashing down on me. Perhaps fate decided to punish me by letting me get into a car accident when I was trying to come after you.
“I got what I deserved, Vicky. I know I made a terrible mistake, but I love you, Vicky. Let’s start over,
