Chapter 31
Nicole, who had been on the phone with her eyes tightly shit from exhaustion, suddenly opened them when she heard Travis’s words.
She took a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh, trying to calm her wildly fluctuating emotions from today. She didn’t want him causing her any more emotional ups and downs.
After collecting herself, she glanced at her phone. “I’ll be at your place in an hour
When the words “your place” reached Travis’s ears, his heart tightened unexpectedly. His knuckles turned whiter as he gripped the phone.
After a long silence, he deliberately spoke in a harsh tone: “Hurry up, and don’t waste my time.”
Nicole simply replied “Fine,” then hung up and instructed the driver to change their destination.
The car made a turn and drove for half an hour before entering the wealthy district of the city. Tall tropical rainforest vegetation lined the spacious roads.
Skyscrapers reached into the crimson–tinted sky at sunset, looking majestic and solemn, as if the people living there always existed under blue skies and white clouds, forever looking down on life from above.
If William hadn’t adopted her, Nicole figured she’d probably be living in the gutter right now. Her alcoholic,
abusive father and her timid, helpless mother could never have given her a decent future.
So when Travis mentioned that many of the shoes and clothes she’d left behind were gifts from William, she couldn’t help but come over. William was like a second father to her, and she owed him tremendously.
She could easily give up all the lipsticks Travis had given her, but she wanted to keep everything William had gifted her.
As expected, the car was stopped by security as soon as it entered the Graham family villa area. Without a pass or invitation, outside vehicles weren’t allowed to enter.
Nicole had hoped to avoid walking the 1000–meter stretch to the house, but it seemed she had no choice. She’d have to ask the driver to wait outside.
“Miss, I need to pick up my next customer. I can’t wait for you that long!” the driver said.
“I can pay you extra,” Nicole offered.
“How long do you need me to wait?”
Nicole thought about Travis’s personality. Going there to collect her things would likely involve dealing with a bunch of issues, and she honestly didn’t know how long it would take.
“Look, you seem well–off. How about this–give me 1000, and I’ll wait here for you all day, no problem.”
1000?
Nicole had already maxed out her credit cards getting Helen transferred to another hospital. She had less than 5,000 in cash left. If she gave the driver 1000, what would she live on for the next few days?
“Never mind, I’ll call another car later,” she said.
“Fine.” The driver gave her a pointed look and muttered under his breath, “Rich people are so stingy.” Then he stepped on the gas and drove away.
Watching the car disappear in a cloud of dust, Nicole sighed. She really wished she were rich.

As she approached the main entrance of the Graham family mansion, she spotted Travis in the distance, hands in his pockets, his handsome face as dark and gloomy as storm clouds gathering on the horizon, creating an oppressive atmosphere.
“It’s been over an hour. Why are you so late?” he demanded
As soon as Travis saw Nicole, he started berating her out of habit.
Meanwhile, Nicole was walking and talking on her phone, completely ignoring him.
“Thanks for your help, Alexander. I’ll treat you to dinner sometime,” she said before ending the call.
Only then did she casually look up and ask, “Where are my things?”
Irritated at being ignored for so long, Travis tugged at his tie in frustration. “Third floor. Find them yourself!” he snapped. “Just make sure you clean up all your junk, or you’re not leaving tonight!“-
