The sound of a car engine starting came from the parking lot downstairs.
Travis struggled to his feet and staggered to the third–floor window. He watched as the imposing G–Wagon roared away from the estate, his body sliding down the wall until he hit the floor.
The room was nearly empty now, almost all of Nicole’s things gone.
Travis went to the second bedroom and looked at the barren space, feeling like something was missing.
“Young master, are you unwell? Should I call a doctor?” A servant approached with concern, seeing his frighteningly pale face.
Travis said nothing, just clutching his kicked stomach as he returned to his room and lay down on the bed.
“Find out when Nicole and Alexander got together,” he texted.
“Well, well, did the sun rise from the west today? Why the sudden interest in your wife?” Nelson Larkin couldn’t help teasing
The Larkin family was also among the city’s elite, so Nelson had known Travis since they were toddlers.
Their similar backgrounds quickly made them friends, but their different personalities made their friendship both interesting and strange.
Travis usually maintained a stern face, as if everyone owed him billions.
Meanwhile, Nelson was handsome, carefree, humorous, and somewhat chatty.
When the two walked together, it was like one was eternally silent as gold, while the other constantly chattered
away.
The Larkin family controlled the city’s entire media industry, so digging up someone’s private affairs was child’s play for young master Nelson.
However, he was merely curious why Travis suddenly wanted to investigate his own wife.
Travis immediately corrected him.
“Don’t call her my wife. We’re divorced.”
“You’re divorced? Why? Are you really going to marry Lucy?”
“Nicole initiated it, and I agreed.”
“She proposed it? Doesn’t she really like you? Why would she want a divorce?”
Nelson truly didn’t have high hopes for Travis and Nicole’s marriage.
After all, everyone in the city’s upper circles knew that Travis didn’t like Nicole.
He had assumed that, following this trend, Travis dumping Nicole was just a matter of time.
Unexpectedly, it was Nicole who had proposed the divorce
With his quick mind, Nelson immediately pieced together what had happened.
“Travis, you suspect she and that Hayes guy are having an affair? That she cheated on you?”
“Just go find out what I asked!”

Travis sent an eye–rolling emoji on message app, tossed his phone aside, and stopped replying to Nelson.
His mind was filled with images of Alexander carrying Nicole away.
“Nicole, you actually dared to betray me. I won’t let you get away
this!”
Back at her small apartment, Nicole felt much better after drinking the honey water Alexander had brought her. Mimi, sensing Nicole wasn’t feeling well, jumped onto the sofa and kept nuzzling her fluffy face against Nicole’s head while purring loudly.
Nicole gently stroked Mimi’s little head and said softly, “Mommy’s fine, just need some rest.”
“Is this your cat?” Alexander watched Nicole tenderly petting the white domestic cat and couldn’t resist reaching out to stroke its fluffy head too.
Mimi immediately responded with a few meows.
Nicole observed Mimi’s reaction and looked up at Alexander. “Mimi actually doesn’t dislike you.”
Hearing this, Alexander felt secretly delighted. He cleared his throat and said proudly, “Of course. Mimi is mesmerised by my charm, after all.”
Seeing how he brightened at the slightest compliment, Nicole couldn’t help but laugh. “Right, the young master of the prestigious Hayes family, the city’s heartthrob. Thank you so much for today!”
“It was on my way. I was actually coming to bring you some information about Metropolitan University Hospital. Take a good look–it might be useful for your interview in a few days.”
After saying this, Alexander handed the documents to Nicole.
“Knock! Knock! Knock!” Just then, a series of urgent knocks came from the door.
Nicole frowned and was about to get up to answer it when Alexander stopped her. “I’ll go.”
He quickly walked to the living room and opened the front door.
But there was nothing there except a gust of wind–not a person in sight!
