Overjoyed, I drifted excitedly around Wendy and my father. Whoever reported this to the police, I promise to repay you in my next life.
The officers ignored my father’s frantic protests Two of them restrained him and escorted him toward the storage closet.
Eager, I followed closely behind.
After everything, it’d been a long time since my last time returning to the closet. The fear I once held had faded, replaced by a burning anticipation for karma.
Almost a year had passed since my death. My body had rotted away, leaving only bones. Even the rats had abandoned the closet now that there was nothing left to eat.
As the door swung open, the stench of decay filled the air. Some of the officers, despite their experience, retreated and vomited.
After a moment, they donned masks and ventured inside.
Thank goodness spirits have no sense of smell. I felt bad for them–it must have been
unbearable.
I stepped inside with them. My skeleton didn’t frighten me anymore, though it stirred a deep sadness.
I was once a beautiful young woman. Now, all that’s left of me are bones marred with marks of rat teeth–a grotesque sight.
The officer was unfazed. He knelt and inspected my remains silently, brushing dirt and dust from the bones.
After a pause, he murmured, “Justice will be served. I swear on it.”
“Thank you,” I whispered, even though I knew he couldn’t hear me. He’s the only one who’s cared about what happened to me. My only hope now.
Once forensics finished their examination, I followed the officers out of the villa.
My father, Wendy, and Ian were taken into custody. Ian had just returned home and looked utterly confused.
Wendy’s face turned ashen when she saw my remains. She tried to back away, her eyes darting between my father and Ian for help, but they were too preoccupied with their own troubles.
My father, wild with panic, struggled against the officers holding him.
“That’s not Jennifer! It can’t be! That’s a fake!
“You’ve all been fooled! Jennifer killed this person and ran away!”
No one paid him any mind–except for the officer cuffing him, who looked at him with contempt as he tightened the handcuffs until my father winced and sucked in a sharp breath.

Chapter 10
I followed them to the police station, watching my father closely. I didn’t want to miss a single expression on his face.
‘Karma’s a bitch,‘ I thought gleefully. ‘I can’t wait to see what she has in store for him.‘
