“What? You expect me to marry you despite your HIV diagnosis? Or were you hoping to infect me, so you could use my family’s
money for the treatment?”
I laid out his entire plan right there. Jake’s face turned ghostly white.
“Laura Jefferson, how dare you slander my son!” Jake’s father finally spoke up. “These documents are obviously fake! We treated
you so well–even put the house in your name=”
“Yes, the house is in my name, but you took out a loan for the down payment!” I cut in coldly, pulling out the loan documents
from my purse and holding them up. “Look closely–this is a debt notice from the bank, showing it’s for the house down payment. His family didn’t pay a cent, and now I’d be stuck with this debt!”
“I never would’ve expected this from the Allens!”
“They’re worse than they look.”
“Imagine scheming like this–using a woman for money. How despicable!”
“And on top of it, he has HIV. That’s terrifying!”
Guests began standing up, abandoning their seats. Jake’s business partners walked out one by one, casting judgmental glances.
“Wait, please, wait!” Jake’s father tried to stop them, but they brushed him off.
“I wouldn’t dare work with people like you!”
They stormed out, leaving the Allens looking like defeated dogs. I felt a rush of satisfaction as I stepped down from the stage, ready to leave with my parents.
But Jake spun around, glaring at me with fury and hatred in his eyes.

“Laura Jefferson, you ruined my family! I won’t let you get away with this!”
He suddenly grabbed a steak knife from the table and lunged at me.
Clang!
The knife struck the table as I barely dodged in time.
Screams erupted around us. Jake’s hand was cut, blood seeping from his palm and dripping onto the blade. He was shaking, his eyes wild with rage, a twisted smile stretching across his face as he looked back at me.
“Laura, you’re so scared of HIV? Well, I’ll make sure you get infected–I’ll make you suffer like me!”
Holding the bloodied knife, he charged at me recklessly, stabbing wildly.
“You think you can escape me? I’ll kill you–I’ll kill you!” he screamed hysterically. Guests fled in panic, bumping into me as I tried to escape. But I was trapped, backed into a corner. Jake’s eyes were bloodshot, and his face was a mask of madness as he approached, gripping the bloody knife and looking like a demon emerging from hell.
