Chapter 29
“Duncan, you’ve forgiven me, right? You have, haven’t you?” Janet’s eyes were filled with desperate hope as she
looked at Duncan.
“Mom, I need to know–what’s the truth behind that video” Duncan suddenly recalled the footage from a year ago.
Janet hesitated but finally spoke the truth. “Heather brought that video to me. I didn’t think much of it at the time. I was just in a rush to pin the blame for the missing money on Audrey.”
“That video must have been fake. Heather poisoned Audrey with thallium. I’m sure she had the video made too. Audrey told me she had only ever been with me. She never betrayed me,” Duncan’s voice found a new resolve, as if his soul had finally found an anchor.
“Duncan, get up! We need to get to the bottom of this and clear Audrey’s name,” Seamus said, his eyes lighting up as he helped Duncan stand. His son had found a reason to live again.
After returning from Audrey’s grave, Duncan went straight to the strip club where Heather worked.
The club was owned by someone Duncan knew. With the owner’s help, Duncan hired ten thugs to pose as customers and target Heather. One by one, they all took their turn with her in every degrading way imaginable, and Heather was powerless to resist.
After hours of torment, one of the men pulled out a syringe dangling it in front of Heather. “This syringe is filled with HIV–positive blood. If you don’t tell me the truth about the video of Audrey’s so–called affair from a year ago, I’ll inject this into you.”
Heather was so terrified that she wet herself. Without hesitation, she spilled everything. “The video was fake. I had someone doctor it. And I’m the one who poisoned her with thallium. I got close to her just to take Duncan away. I’ve told you everything! Please, don’t inject me with that blood!”
Heather knew that these thugs didn’t come after her by chance. Duncan must have orchestrated the entire thing. He hadn’t let her off the hook. He had always believed she was behind the poisoning, which was why he’d destroyed the Leverton family. But the fake video had always been a thorn in his heart, the one thing that made him doubt Audrey’s loyalty. That’s why he’d sent these men to force the truth out of her.
There was no point in begging now. Duncan would never show her mercy, not after she crossed the line by hurting Audrey.
The city no longer had a place for Heather. But even leaving wasn’t an option–the club was owned by loan sharks, and they wouldn’t let her walk away.
As Heather agonized over her fate, the needle pierced her vein, injecting the infected blood into her body. “Ahhh!” Heather screamed, her voice filled with pure despair. In that moment, every last shred of hope shattered. Her body now contained HIV–positive blood. She wouldn’t live long,
She struggled to resist, but her body had no strength left. Tears of hopelessness streamed down her face. Once, she had been so glamorous, and now, she was utterly ruined.
The thugs, having done their job, left without looking back
Duncan listened to the recording they had given him over and over. Yet, no matter how many times he heard it, heart couldn’t find peace.
