However, Lucy showed up alone, with the money in hand. Seeing how easily she got the cash, Peter’s mood soared. It seemed Duncan was treating her well, and he figured there might be even more to gain from her in the future.
Feeling smug, Peter stepped out from behind a large rock and slowly approached Lucy, wrapping his arms around her from behind. “Did you miss me, baby?” he whispered, muzzling his face against hers.
The scent of Lucy’s perfume stirred something in Peter, and his hands began roaming over her body. But after experiencing a man like Duncan, Lucy now found Peter utterly repulsive. She pushed him away forcefully, her voice cold and detached, “Peter, take the money, and we’re clone. Don’t come looking for me again.”
Peter smirked and, undeterred, reached out to touch her again, but Lucy recoiled as if she had just touched something filthy.
“Keep your hands to yourself!” she snapped.
Peter chuckled, bending down to unzip the bag. When he saw it was filled with cash, his eyes lit up. “Not bad,” he grinned. “Looks like Duncan’s treating you well. Lucy, you’ve hit the jackpot, haven’t you? Found yourself a sugar daddy.”
He grabbed the money and turned to leave, but Lucy called after him, “You promised we’d be done after this! No more between us, right?”
Peter looked back, his laugh even more brazen now. “Lucy, you’re too naïve for this world. Do you really think I’d just let you, my golden goose, live the good life while I’m stuck struggling?”
He planned to bleed Duncan dry through Lucy. Duncan owed the Leverton family, and Peter was going to get back everything they had lost.
Lucy couldn’t find the words to express her anger. She wanted to rip Peter apart with her own hands, but just as she was about to lunge at him, Duncan stepped out from behind the rocks, stopping her,
Duncan had been hiding nearby the entire time, arriving even earlier than Peter. He had suspected for the last couple of days that Lucy was in contact with someone, so he had listened in on her phone calls. He hadn’t expected it to be Peter.
Lucy froze when she saw Duncan step in, swallowing her curses toward Peter. Her only hope was that Peter would leave quickly without crossing paths with Duncan.
Duncan gently held Lucy, who was trembling with frustration. “Don’t worry, he’s not going anywhere with that money,” Duncan said calmly, his voice reassuring
Lucy’s heart clenched at his words. Had Duncan already planned for this? Did he know everything? Did he know about her background and her relationship with Peter? The thought terrified her.
All she could think of now was helping Peter escape. She couldn’t let Duncan find out the truth about her past or her work. She anxiously watched as Peter began to disappear from view, her panic rising.
“Duncan, you called the police, didn’t you?” Lucy asked, trying to remain calm.
“I did. Peter extorted you. If he did it once, he’d do it again, so I had to report him,” Duncan replied, confused about why Audrey seemed so scared of him involving the police. Something deeper was going on.
Duncan couldn’t shake the feeling that this wasn’t just about simple extortion. After seeing Peter touch Lucy earlier, he knew he couldn’t let this man get away.

Chapter 41
Lucy felt like her world was crumbling. Without thinking, she grabbed her phone and frantically called Peter. Peter, run! Duncan’s already called the cops!”
Duncan stood there, stunned, unsure how to react. The woman he loved had just warned the man who tried to blackmail her, telling him to flee.
What was she so afraid of?
