Escaping the police’s attention wasn’t difficult. The nightab had plenty of its own people, and all it took was a word from Brian to create chaos, allowing them to slip away unnoticed.
With that thought in mind, Brian swung his fist and landed brutal punch on Lucy, sending her crashing to the floor. The women in the room were so terrified that they didn’t dare make a sound.
Meanwhile, Duncan awoke in the middle of the night to find the bed empty. He searched the bathroom and scoured the entire villa, but Lucy was nowhere to be found,
His first thought was that Audrey had rejected his proposal and left him again, just as she had a year ago.
Standing alone in the empty living room, Duncan’s mind was filled with nothing but thoughts of Audrey. His heart, entirely consumed by hier, was in turmoil.
Audrey had long since become intertwined with his soul, so deeply that without her, he felt like a shell of a man. Without her, there was only one path for him–despair.
Running a hand roughly over his jaw, Duncan kicked the sofa in frustration, desperate for an outlet to release his building tension. But he couldn’t find one. He was unraveling, on the verge of madness from Audrey’s departure once again.
Dway
Had he known his proposal would drive her to leave, he would have kept her by his side in any way possible. As long as he saw her as his wife, that would have been enough for him.
Something wet slid down his cheek. He wiped his face and realized he was crying. He needed to find her, to bring her back, no matter where she had gone. Even if it meant scouring the ends of the earth, he would find her.
Without thinking, Duncan bolted out of the villa into the dark night, but he had no idea where to go. He picked a random direction and wandered, calling out Audrey’s name. He dialed her number countless times, but there was
no answer.
She was determined to leave him again. Didn’t she realize that he was human too? That he was terrified of losing the woman he loved, scared of facing a lifetime of loneliness?
The road ahead was pitch black and endless, and Duncan feared he might never find her again.
As he walked, his phone rang–it was an unknown number. His breath caught in his throat as he answered, Hello?”
“If you want to see your woman alive, bring one million to the Eastside docks. Come alone. If anyone else shows up, you’ll know the consequences.” The voice belonged to aman Duncan didn’t recognize.
willingly.
Relief washed over Duncan for a moment–Audrey hadn’t left him; she was in danger. She hadn’t gone w
In his haste, Duncan had left without taking his car, so he quickly returned home to grab it and retrieve the money.
When he arrived at the docks, there wasn’t a soul in sight. Just as he thought he might have been tricked, a group of men emerged from behind a pile of crates.
“Did you kidnap Audrey?” Duncan’s bloodshot eyes burned with rage, his very presence radiating danger. In Tinseltown, Duncan was a man of status, and the fact that these men dared to target him infuriated him.
Brian, who had been leading the group, felt a wave of unease wash over him. Duncan had said “Audrey,” but the woman they had taken wasn’t her. Still, it didn’t matter now. They had gone too far to turn back
“Yes, we have her. Ten million, and we’ll give her back to you,” Brian stammered, his confidence faltering under Duncan’s icy glare.
