Chapter 451
Chapter 45
Duncan’s eyes suddenly darkened. “You want the money? Hand her over first.”
Even though he was deeply worried, Duncan maintained a calm and composed appearance.
Brian hesitated, regretting that he had listened to Peter’s suggestion. The woman they had wasn’t of much use. But the name “Audrey“where had he heard that before?
One of Brian’s men leaned in and whispered, “Audrey’s been dead for a long time. The guy must be out of his mind, mistaking any woman for Audrey.”
Realization hit Brian like a wave, Instantly restoring his confidence. Right! How could he have forgotten? Audrey was dead. Duncan had turned pale overnight after her death and even held a wedding at her funeral. His love for Audrey had crossed into madness. Otherwise, why would he refuse to marry a living woman like Heather from the Leverton family and insist on marrying a corpse?
With this knowledge, Brian felt as if he had Duncan in the palm of his hand. He lifted his head and stared Duncan down, enunciating each word clearly: “You have no choice.
Duncan’s facade crumbled instantly, shattering under those few words. “Why should I believe you?” His voice was almost a scream, his restraint slipping away, giving Brian the upper hand.
‘Because the woman you want is in my hands, and I could kill her at any moment,” Brian sneered.
“You wouldn’t dare! If you so much as harm a single hair on Audrey’s head, I’ll make you pay!” Duncan lunged toward him, but Brian’s lackeys grabbed hold of him, preventing him from even brushing past
his enemy.
Brian casually dusted off his clothes, grinning smugly. “Duncan, you thought you were invincible, huh? Even you can fall today.”
“If you harm Audrey, I swear I’ll never let you go,” Duncan growled, struggling against his captors. His chest heaved as he tried to catch his breath after shouting himself hoarse.
But Brian didn’t care. He was in control now.
“Go get the money,” he ordered his men.
Once they brought the cash over, Brian mockingly patted Duncan on the face. “Do you know why you lost this time?”
“Let her go!” Duncan roared in desperation.
“Because of Audrey,” Brian said with a sinister smirk. “Love–it’s poison. And Audrey, she’s your poison.”
He took a step back, signaling his men, who immediately started beating Duncan mercilessly. These weren’t ordinary thugs–they were trained, and Duncan was left defenseless under their blows.
When they finally tired of beating him, they took the money and left without looking back.
Barely able to stand, Duncan dragged himself toward the small, dilapidated boat docked nearby. He had someone emerge from it earlier, and he was sure Audrey was inside.

Using every ounce of strength, he pulled himself aboard. Inside, muffled sounds reached his ears–sounds that made his heart sink. He knew that voice all too well. It was Audrey.
But when he opened the door, what he saw was a nightmare come to life. Peter had his beloved Audrey pinned beneath him, her body contorted in agony. Duncan’s heart felt as though it was being ripped apart, only to be ground into dust.

Peter had dared to touch his woman, and for that, he would be damned to hell.
Fueled by sheer rage, Duncan, seemingly reinvigorated, spotted a steel rod nearby. Grabbing it with both hands, he staggered toward Peter.
Peter, too lost in his cruelty, didn’t notice Duncan’s presence until it was too late. The rod came crashing down on his skull with a sickening crack.
Peter stumbled, blood pouring down his face, unable to comprehend what had just happened. Before he could even react, he collapsed, his eyes wide open in death, forever frozen in disbelief.
When Lucy finally came to her senses, she looked up to see Duncan standing over her, gripping the bloodied steel rod, his expression a mix of fury and anguish.
