Warmth spread through my heart.
Yes, I should be happy to be free of those two traitors.
After collecting our belongings from the pack house, I took Aurora directly to the pack spa–indulging in all the treatments we’d previously denied ourselves!
After the complete pampering session, we looked in the mirror at our rejuvenated selves, and our mood instantly improved.
Fortunately, our pregnancies hadn’t altered our figures much. 1
With our careful control throughout, our bodies looked nearly identical to before pregnancy.
Perhaps even more alluring now.
We returned to our new den, our minds and bodies relaxed, and enjoyed the best sleep we’d had in months.
The next day, I received a call from the enforcement division.
They informed me that they had captured the rogue wolves who attacked me, but the suspects weren’t revealing who had ordered them to leak my whereabouts. Worse still, Alpha Alexander had personally gotten involved in the case, making it difficult for the
enforcement division to proceed freely.
As they spoke, I immediately sensed something was wrong.
“So what happens now?” I asked.
“We’re continuing the interrogation, but with Alpha Alexander overseeing the case directly… it complicates things. The rogues
are unwilling to implicate anyone else.”
My heart sank. It was all too convenient.
There was no way this happened without Victoria’s involvement.
My visit to the trading post in the forest had been a last–minute decision. The only people who knew I was going there were
Alexander and Victoria, who had been with him when I mentioned it.
And in the moment I was being attacked by the rogue wolves, I distinctly remembered seeing Victoria’s silhouette disappear
around the forest. I hadn’t been certain then, but thinking back now, I was almost positive it had been her.
With no evidence and Alexander interfering, the case seemed to be at a standstill.
I grew increasingly anxious.
I had thought that after hearing about my attack, the Alpha twins would take action. But as always, they continued to disappoint.
Speak of the devil.
The next day, Alexander called me. I answered with reluctance, swallowing my disgust.

His opening words were filled with tension: “Aria, are you absolutely certain that Victoria leaked your whereabouts to the rogues? The Alpha Council is putting enormous pressure on me over these accusations. You shouldn’t talk nonsense without evidence.“,
My patience, already worn thin from days of waiting, completely evaporated. Alexander’s words pushed my anger to its breaking
point.
I shouted into the phone, no longer caring about appearances:
“Alexander, I wouldn’t and don’t have the energy to play this kind of game with you. My pup died because of you, and you owe it justice. If there’s no evidence, then find some! What good does complaining to me do?”
There was a moment of silence on the other end.
“Listen,” Alexander finally said, his voice tense, “you need to stop accusing Victoria without proof. She says she was nowhere near the trading post that day.”
“Of course she’d say that!” I snapped. “Did you even question her properly?”
“The Alpha Council is putting enormous pressure on me over this. If you can’t provide concrete evidence against Victoria, you need to stop making these accusations.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Even now, after everything, he was still protecting her.
“So you’re more concerned about Victoria’s reputation than finding who was responsible for killing our pup?”
“That’s not what I-”
“No, I understand perfectly,” I cut him off. “I’ll find the evidence myself since you clearly can’t be bothered.”
I hung up before he could respond, my hands shaking with rage.
