Chapter 21
“Anthony, I remember I taught you to be polite and honest, but how many lies have you told me to see Hannah? “All because Hannah gave you snacks and toys that I didn’t allow you to have, you protected her during the car accident and lied to me to see her.” Andrea had thought that she was not angry, but she was still a little angry when she saw him again.
She struggled to give birth to him and had hopes for him. That was why she named him Anthony–which meant priceless one. She remembered that she had never taught him to lie, but he lied to her repeatedly under Gabriel’s influence.
Andrea added, “I gave you the chance. When you first went to Hannah with your father behind my back, I asked you where you went, and I repeatedly confirmed with you whether you were really going to the place you said instead of Hannah’s villa, but what did you answer?”
When Gabriel cheated on her, she comforted herself that at least she still had Anthony. Therefore, she poured all of her love onto her son, thinking she would divorce Gabriel when Anthony was older. However, the son she loved with all her heart still did not love her.
“I refused to feed you snacks because your stomach is fragile. After eating snacks, you’d end up with diarrhea, and that’s if you’re lucky.
“If it was serious, you’d have to go to the hospital. The doctor has reminded you countless times whenever you went to the hospital for a check–up. Did you listen? It’s not that I won’t let you play with toys; it’s that some of the bacteria on those toys result in an allergic reaction that will hospitalize you.
“The toys I gave you to play with were sterilized. The ones Hannah gave you were not only of poor quality, but hadn’t been disinfected. It wasn’t easy for you to survive until now.” Andrea’s voice had a hint of irony at the end.
After a year of separation, Anthony already knew that he was wrong. Listening to his mom’s words, he only lowered his head and silently shed tears.
If it were in the past, Andrea would have hugged him and coaxed him softly. However, now she just watched coldly.
Andrea’s phone suddenly rang in the quiet ward.
After answering it, Ellie’s voice came from the other end. Her tone carried a hint of grievance. “Mom, didn’t you say that you and Dad would be back soon? Why weren’t you here when I woke up? I’m scared…”
Unlike her indifference to Anthony just now, Andrea was gentle when she received Ellie’s call. “Be good, Ellie. You have a nanny accompanying you. Go to sleep. We’ll be back when you wake up again. Okay…”
Before she could finish, Anthony suddenly raised his head and yelled at the phone. “Who are you? Don’t call my Mom that!”
His voice not only shocked Andrea, but also Ellie on the other end of the line.
“Mom…” Ellie’s voice began to sound tearful. Andrea glared at Gabriel and hurriedly coaxed Ellie. “Be good, don’t cry. I love
