Sean held back his anger and stared at me.
I was acting very differently tonight.
I usually obeyed him, but today, I was pushing his limits.
However, I could not care less about him.
Amid the silence, Sean’s phone rang.
I knew right away that it was Josie.
“Hello, Sean, are you home? Someone’s knocking on my door, and I’m scared.” She sounded pitiful.
Sean frowned, and he was clearly concerned.
He comforted her and told her that he would be there in about ten minutes. After that, he ended the call.
Noticing that I was looking at him, he came up with an excuse. “A staff member from work is having a family issue. I’m going to check on them.”
Did he think I did not hear them talking?
I had no desire to argue, so I just responded with an “Oh” and stayed quiet.
“Wendy, can you drive me there? You know I can’t drive right now, and the driver’s gone,” he said. His tone left no room for refusal.
He was not asking; he was telling me.
I looked at his legs with a mocking gaze and smiled faintly. “Are you sure you can’t drive?”
Sean froze for a moment, but he quickly composed himself. “You know I wouldn’t lie to you, Wendy.”
He seemed a little worried and looked at me sincerely.
On the drive to Josie’s place, we did not speak.
When we arrived, she opened the door and immediately ran into his arms.
Sean looked at me nervously. Seeing that I was not reacting, he boldly stroked her back and whispered comfortingly to her.
I did not want to watch them, so I walked away.
Sean stopped me.
