Alice’s been more obedient.
Is she really?
I’m not sure.
But the way she’s acting makes me feel like things still aren’t headed in the right direction.
July 16 Clear Skies
–
What do I need to do to get you to look at me?
Forget it.
I’m always endlessly optimistic.
July 29 – Snow
We’ve arrived in Frostvale.
Looks like this girl really enjoys getting out and about, huh?
Alice, you know what?
When you smile and when the corners of your lips curl up, it makes me the happiest man alive.
August 2- Clear Skies
Alice wants that little spirit she’s been talking about.
Forget the spirit, even if you want the stars in the sky, I’d pluck them down for you.
Do you know that my only wish is for you to be happy?
As long as you’re happy, I don’t care if you forget the memories we once shared.
They aren’t worth mentioning.
Nothing is more important than your happiness, Alice.
Absolutely nothing.

The diary ended here, abruptly.
Outside the window, the snow from the night before howled as it lashed against the panes.
Yes, today was August 3rd.
“You didn’t have time to write in your journal, did you? You’re out there in the snowstorm, aren’t you, Ethan?” I murmured.
The distant mountains seemed to tremble, and the wind was so fierce it felt as if it could scatter one’s very soul.
They said there was an avalanche on the high peaks and there was still a group of people up there on that mountain.
Someone shouted, “Get the rescue team out here quickly!”
The snow covered everything, obscuring everything in sight.
I suddenly remembered how, just last night, you had patted my head as you left.
You said, “Don’t say things like that, Alice. Some words have a way of coming true.”
The mountain stood dark and imposing, the pure white snowflakes were nowhere to be seen.
I ran out of the lodge, but the mountain path seemed endless.
The snow was so heavy–so thick.
I knelt in the snow, screaming and crying.
I called your name over and over again.
“Hmph, so you remember everything now?”
Outside the hospital room, the girl stood with her arms crossed, looking up at me.
Serena glared at me. “Do you remember that I was once your best friend?”
