Melvin was starting to lose it and panic, too.
“Damn it! You couldn’t even keep that from her? What a piece of crap! I’ll never forgive you if something happens to Jean!” he

snapped.
“It’s too late for that. We’ve got to find her right now. Did she return to the Sorensen residence?” Elias asked.
“Do you really think you’d be calling me right now if she had?”

They went back and forth, blaming each other until they finally decided to track me down. But by then, I was already on a plane to
another country.
Elias and Melvin couldn’t find me. Before long, they’d find out I was pressing charges. That was my second gift to them. I’d gone
to the police before I left.
Even though it had been two years since it happened, people couldn’t forget how bad my injuries were. And, as luck would have it,
the officer handling my case now was the same one who’d taken my statement back then.
The officers had held onto all the evidence of what had happened to me. And now, I had recordings that proved who was
responsible. Elias, Melvin, and the scumbags they hired weren’t getting away with it this time.
When the police started calling them in for questioning, they finally freaked out and started blowing up my phone. When I didn’t
pick up, they tried everything–WhatsApp, emails, showing up at places I might be, even begging mutual friends to reach out to
- me.
Elias and Melvin went from making excuses to apologizing and pleading for forgiveness, getting more desperate and pathetic
with each attempt. They even promised they’d cut Laura off for good.
But none of it mattered to me anymore. I never replied, not once.
