Chapter 7
Mom and Dad kept trying to talk me into it, but I was done listening. The more they pushed, the more it just proved they never really cared about me.
“That crap is just to mess with you two. Elias and I have been married for two years. Do you even have the slightest idea what kind of life I’ve been living? Do you have any idea how the Levys see me?
“To them, I’m nothing, a burden, a living disaster! Elias is the one who put me in this mess, and yet he never once stepped in to stop them from mocking and humiliating me.”
Mom and Dad were stunned. In their eyes, Elias was the perfect son–in–law, always looking out for me. They even believed he’d hurt me only because he loved me too much–because he was so desperate to keep me by his side.
However, I wasn’t going to cover for him anymore. I told them about his affair with Laura. Only then did they realize Elias had teamed up with Melvin to hurt me, all for Laura’s sake.
Laura had been in on it from the very start, egging them on. The harm was already done, and nothing could change that.
“They hurt me once for Laura. They might do it again. They can move on, but I wouldn’t survive another round,” I insisted, more determined than ever.
In the end, Mom and Dad couldn’t change my mind and returned to our home country.
They only had one son, Melvin, and counted on him to inherit everything. Of course, they had to put their focus on him rather than stick around with me, a “useless cripple“.
