Laura was nothing but a sorry mess, groveling for mercy. I didn’t stick around. That night, I left the city that had brought me nothing but heartbreak.
Back with my dance troupe, I threw myself into work. We were about to debut a new routine on the international stage. It’d be a
huge moment for us.
Marissa had already taken time off to fly back with me and help me get settled, and I couldn’t have been more thankful. There was
no way I was going to let my personal stuff mess up all the hard work everyone had put in.
Luckily, our first performance was a huge success. The audience erupted in thunderous applause, and several world–renowned
dancers gave us rave reviews.
Marissa wheeled me to center stage. Since the incident, this was my first time stepping onto a stage again as a choreography
consultant.
I bowed my head alongside the other dancers, grateful for the audience’s support. This time, the flashing cameras and the eyes of strangers didn’t scare me. I felt like I had found a new purpose.
Three years later, I choreographed a dance called “The Fallen Butterfly.” I performed it entirely from my wheelchair and became the first dancer of my kind.
Marissa placed the trophy in my hands, congratulating me on this new chapter of my life.
