When I woke up, I was in a hospital bed once more. Jasper was pushing and shoving someone in the doorway.
“I’m her husband! Why won’t you let me in there to see her?”
Bryan was sitting by the hospital bed, slowly pulling the blanket over me. “Are you awake?”
I nodded weakly and turned to look at Jasper, who was making a commotion at the door.
Bryan said exasperatedly, “He’s already gotten you into this state. Do you still have feelings for him? You insisted on marrying
him back then, and we all warned you that he wouldn’t be a good partner.”
At that moment, Jasper barged in and grabbed my hand. “Ari, you’re awake! Do you still feel unwell? Where does it hurt? Are you
hungry? I made some soup for you at home. Do you want some?”
Bryan’s brow furrowed. “The patient just woke up. It’s not appropriate for her to eat right away. Why are you coming here to
show concern now?
“What were you doing earlier? If she’d been sent in for emergency care just a moment later, she would have died because of you
people!
“With the state that her leg is in, she’ll only be able to get out of bed after at least three months‘ bed rest!”
Jasper wasn’t his usual arrogant self. He only retorted in a small voice, “I didn’t know that Ari’s health was in such a bad state…”
Bryan snorted. He felt indignant on my behalf, and he raised his voice. “Of course, you wouldn’t know! You weren’t the one who risked your life to give birth to the baby, and you weren’t the one who had your leg broken!
“When your enemies tried to get revenge on you back then, it was Aria who shielded you and took the blows meant for you! Who did she get her leg broken for? Have you forgotten all that? Damn you!
“How could you be shameless enough to let her dance onstage?”
Jasper had gone white. He saw how expressionless I was and tried to explain himself anxiously. “I thought that if she just danced
for a while, it would be alright.”
