Chapter 8
The next day, Joshua accompanied me to the church for a memorial service for our child. After a short prayer, we knelt before our child’s grave, softly sharing our grief.
Joshua informed me that Mrs. Holland was a nanny hired by the neighborhood residents.
After the incident, she was dismissed by her employer and faced a ban within the industry.
Left with no options, she took a job as a part–time worker/
At first, things went relatively well, but as time passed, she began to complain about the exhausting work and low pay, and soon she could no longer continue.
Just then, her unfaithful husband returned and proposed reconciliation.
Seeing her man abandon his mistress to return to her, Mrs. Holland eagerly took him in.
All of it was orchestrated by Joshua.
Knowing about her misdeeds, Mr. Holland expressed his loyalty to Joshua by physically abusing Mrs. Holland every other day.
Mrs. Holland endured the beatings to avoid letting the mistress have her way.
On the other hand, Mrs. Granger faced daily abuse from her daughter–in–law for ruining George’s business.
George suffered professional ostracism from Joshua and returned home only to be troubled by the constant conflicts between his mother and wife.
He sold the company, sent his mother back to her hometown, and moved away with his wife and child.
As for Olivia, after learning about her family’s bankruptcy, she never bothered me again.
It was as if she had vanished, and even the Wylde family could not locate her.
“Son, those who killed you have received their punishment. You can finally rest in peace!
“Mummy and Daddy will see you again someday!”
I finally realized how much Joshua had silently done for us.
The pent–up resentment inside me dissipated, and I cried uncontrollably, fainting in his embrace.
