“Then what were these past few days to you?” Landon asked.
Landon gripped my shoulders, and his voice trembled. “Christine, what do you take me for?”
I clenched my fists tightly and took a deep breath. “Let’s just say we both got what we needed from this. If you’re willing, we can maintain this arrangement. If you meet someone you like, we can end this at any time.” “What kin
kind of arrangement? Something purely physical?” Landon pressed.
“You can see it that way.” I refused to look at him, worried that tears would start falling if I did. “Landon, I’m very sorry. If you’re not comfortable with this, I’ll leave Harbor City immediately. I swear I’ll never bother you again.”
“Christine.” Landon’s eyes were red. He let go of me and slowly took a step back.
He looked like he was smiling, but the smile seemed broker “Christine, you can’t treat me like this.”
“Landon…” I started
He turned around and grabbed his coat before walking toward the door.
I instinctively took a step forward, but I stopped.
Landon walked all the way to the door. The moment he gripped the handle, he suddenly turned back to look at me. He even shot me a reassuring smile. “I’m sorry, I just need some time alone.”
I nodded. “Okay, I won’t disturb you.”
“Christine, give me some time. Wait for my answer,” Landon said before he left.
I felt completely drained as I sat down on the couch.
I felt incredibly sad, but I knew very well that I had no choice at this moment.

I couldn’t invest everything and love someone wholeheartedly again.
I couldn’t start a new relationship.

Landon drove back to the hotel where Christine was staying
He got out of the car but didn’t go inside. Instead, he leaned against the car and lit a cigarette.
Countless windows were still lit, and he couldn’t tell which one was hers.
But he knew that she was here. He knew that she was in the same city as he was.
